Mokarrameh Ghanbari was a self-taught Iranian painter and a prominent figure in Iran’s folk art and Art Brut movements. She began painting in 1991, at approximately 63 years of age. Her works are characterized by vivid colors, densely populated figures, and inspiration drawn from dreams, nature, folk traditions, and personal narratives. She held her first solo exhibition at Seyhoun Gallery in Tehran in 1995 and was named Female Painter of the Year by Sweden’s National Museum in 2001.
